ECB Officials Cite Inflation Relief, Recent Rate Hike

A European Central Bank governing council member says the institution is well-positioned after recent monetary tightening and easing inflation pressures.

According to Bloomberg Markets, a member of the European Central Bank's Governing Council characterized the institution as being in a favorable position following its recent interest-rate increase. Emmanuel Moulin noted that inflation pressures have begun to moderate, citing a decline in crude oil prices as a contributing factor to the easing of price growth across the eurozone.

The ECB's recent monetary policy action and the improved inflation outlook suggest the central bank has adequate room to assess economic conditions going forward. With oil price weakness providing relief on the commodity-driven component of inflation, policymakers appear more confident in their ability to manage price stability across the currency union.
