The total count of active oil and gas drilling rigs across the United States increased during the latest reporting period, according to data released Friday by Baker Hughes. The combined rig count reached 573, representing a notable 26-rig gain compared to the same period last year, signaling continued momentum in domestic energy production activity.
According to Baker Hughes, active oil rigs climbed by 7 during the week to reach 440 total, marking an 8-rig increase compared to the prior year. Natural gas rigs posted a more substantial year-over-year gain, rising by 3 to 125 units, an increase of 16 rigs from the same timeframe in 2023. Miscellaneous rigs remained stable at 8.
The uptick in rig counts reflects broader industry dynamics, including stabilized energy markets and operational adjustments among major producers. The increase across both oil and gas segments indicates sustained investment in domestic production capacity as drillers respond to prevailing market conditions.
