Masdar Secures $5.1B for World's Largest Solar-Battery Complex

Masdar announced financial close on a $5.1 billion financing package for a groundbreaking gigascale renewable energy project in Abu Dhabi.

According to OilPrice, the Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar has achieved financial close on $5.1 billion in debt financing for what it describes as the world's first gigascale round-the-clock renewable energy facility. The integrated solar and battery storage project represents a significant milestone in utility-scale clean energy development, with a total capital requirement of $6.1 billion. Masdar is contributing $1 billion in equity to the venture.

The financing package was underwritten by a consortium of 13 international and regional financial institutions, including leading Abu Dhabi-based lenders. This multibank syndication reflects strong investor confidence in the project's viability and the growing appetite among major financial institutions for large-scale renewable energy investments in the Middle East and beyond.

The project underscores the strategic shift by Gulf region energy producers toward renewable power development and energy diversification. As a government-backed clean energy company, Masdar's commitment to the technology positions the UAE as a significant player in global renewable energy infrastructure, particularly in demonstrating the feasibility of storage-backed solar systems at gigawatt scale.
