FedEx is shedding its supply chain services division in a transaction valued at $1.4 billion, according to reports. French shipping company CMA CGM will acquire the unit and integrate it into Ceva Logistics, its existing logistics subsidiary. The move marks a strategic refocusing effort by the express delivery firm.
The sale reflects broader industry trends of consolidation and specialization within the global logistics sector. CMA CGM's acquisition of FedEx's supply chain operations strengthens its position in third-party logistics and complements Ceva Logistics' existing service offerings. The combined entity is expected to expand its capabilities in supply chain management and warehousing solutions.
For FedEx, the divestiture allows the company to concentrate resources on its core package delivery and express shipping operations. This capital from the sale could be redirected toward technology investments, network optimization, or shareholder returns as the logistics industry continues to evolve amid changing customer demands and competitive pressures.
