According to Reuters, Engie Brasil, Brazil's largest private electricity producer, successfully concluded a follow-on public share offering that generated 8.4 billion reais ($1.66 billion) in capital. The offering priced shares at 30.50 reais each and ranks among the most significant share issuances in Brazil's capital markets this year, underscoring investor confidence in the company's growth prospects amid the nation's energy transition.
The company plans to deploy approximately $1.13 billion of the proceeds toward acquiring a 40% stake in the Jirau hydroelectric plant from its French parent company. This strategic investment expands Engie Brasil's footprint in hydroelectric generation, reinforcing its position as a major player in renewable energy production across the region.
The Jirau facility, with a capacity of 3,750 megawatts, represents a substantial addition to Engie Brasil's generating assets. By increasing its stake in the project, the company strengthens its exposure to Brazil's hydropower sector, which continues to play a critical role in the country's energy supply.
