World Wide Generation, the London-based operator of the ESG reporting platform G17 Eco, has initiated a sale process through administrators and is seeking bids from interested parties via an insolvency marketplace. The move marks a notable reversal for a company that was once valued at more than £90 million during a previous equity funding round, underscoring the sharp deceleration in corporate environmental, social, and governance spending.
The sale reflects a broader retreat from sustainability commitments among major corporations, as companies reassess spending priorities amid economic uncertainty. Though ESG initiatives gained significant momentum over the past several years, the sector now faces renewed skepticism regarding their business value and long-term viability as a core strategic focus for enterprises.
The development is particularly significant given the platform's backing from the British Business Bank, a government institution tasked with supporting business growth. The sale suggests that even government-backed sustainability ventures are struggling to maintain investor confidence and demand as market conditions shift.
