The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has formalized partnerships with European energy majors BP and TotalEnergies for the development of the Bab Gas Cap project, a significant natural gas initiative in the United Arab Emirates. According to announcements from both companies, BP and TotalEnergies have each agreed to take 10% equity stakes in the concession, expanding the project's international consortium of investors and operators.
The Bab Gas Cap field is positioned to become a critical component of Abu Dhabi's energy portfolio, with projections showing the facility will produce up to 1.5 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas once operational. The involvement of BP and TotalEnergies underscores continued international confidence in Abu Dhabi's hydrocarbon resources and the broader energy transition strategies of both supermajors, which are increasingly diversifying their portfolios across conventional and lower-carbon energy sources.
The partnership reflects ADNOC's broader strategy to leverage international expertise and capital to develop its vast resource base. By bringing in experienced operators like BP and TotalEnergies, ADNOC is positioning the Bab Gas Cap project to meet growing regional and global energy demands while distributing project risks and development costs among multiple parties.
