ADNOC Invests $1.3B in Supertanker Fleet Expansion

Abu Dhabi's national oil company acquires 11 vessels to strengthen export capacity for crude oil and liquefied natural gas.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is making a significant capital investment to expand its maritime shipping capabilities. According to energy industry reporting, ADNOC's subsidiary ADNOC Logistics & Services announced the acquisition of 11 large-capacity vessels—six Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) and five Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs)—for approximately $1.3 billion. The move underscores the company's commitment to increasing export volumes for both crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) amid rising global energy demand.

Nine of the newly acquired vessels came from the secondary market, with the remaining two being added as newbuilds. According to the announcement, the bulk of deliveries are expected during the current quarter, reflecting ADNOC's urgency to operationalize its expanded fleet. The investment in modern, efficient carriers positions the regional producer to better compete in global energy markets and meet customer commitments.

The fleet expansion is part of ADNOC's broader strategy to capitalize on its hydrocarbon reserves and strengthen its position as a major international energy supplier. By increasing transportation capacity, the company aims to support higher production volumes and improve logistics efficiency across its export operations.
